I want to buy my existing email address so that I can leave the ISP provider to go to another. I have been told that I can buy this address and still receive email on it, but wont be able to send with it, does anyone know if this is true and how do I do it?
Thanks!

Some ISPs will forward your mail for a yearly fee, but I haven't heard of 'buying' the email address in the way you want.

You will have to phone your ISP and ask them.

A better idea would be to have a web based email address now - such as gmail - then it doesn't matter who your ISP is.

By setting up such an account in advance of changing ISP, you will have plenty of time to notify your contacts of the change of email address - and still receive emails to your ISP address during the transition.

If it's possible to buy your email address then fine but you'll only ever be able to send mail via your current ISP unless you go web based as Ethel said. Your ISP always provides the smtp server which is the bit that sends your mail and has nothing to do with receiving it.
