media centre help!!

i have recently bought a new laptop with media centre on and like most think the overall set up of it is great. i have hit a problem with playing dvds. i have noticed it stutters when i play dvds and was wondering if anyone has any ideas how to stop this happening. i have a core duo processor and to be far its a really good spec laptop. i am puzzled as i can run the dvd on media player and it runs fine but on media centre it stutters WHY! It is as if it is trying to run to much. PLEASE HELP
