Background colour and font change

Hi all, I'm a bit of a dummy when it comes to computers. How do you change background colour when writing something and also font? cheers skylight

PS click on AB suggestions and you will see what I mean
Make sure that the drawing tool bar is visible do this by going to VIEW -then TOOLBARS tick the drawing box the drawing bar will appear at the foot of the page. Now click on the box with the little A in the corner your cursor will change into a cross hold down the left mouse button and draw a box the size you need. To fill with a colour click on the arrow at the side of the little bucket on the drawing tool bar and select the colour you want.For the font go to FORMAT on the top menu bar then select FONT you can then change the size of font colour etc
You could also place Word art in this box choose the A (on a slant )and you can choose a variety of text art
