I've done a bit of websearching and, as I read it, Canon's interpretation of the message is, "Tough! Your printer is now b*ggered. Go and buy a new printer".

However, there's a website which suggests a way around the problem. You'll need to scroll well down the page but there's a specific reference to this problem with the MP370 here:
http://www.neilslade.com/Papers/inkjetstuff11. html
(NB: Don't just follow those instructions for resetting the system. You also need to follow the instructions which appear above the MP370 reference, for the physical cleaning of the ink tank).

Thank you Buenchico, I have read (and re-read) the info, spent 30 mins trying to expose the tank but after removing every screw I could find gave up in the end, I reset the warning lamp & used absorbant paper to draw out as much ink from the pad as possible. Now I guess I need to find a "Canon" dealer to hand him loads of money so he can do the job correctly for me, thanks again for the info it gave me a bit of time before the inevitable shutdown.
