Yeah hi,

I need some help from someone who really knows PC computers.

Ive had this prob for a while but its becoming a pain now as my HD fills. The prob im having is burning DVD's whether data or anything else.

Im getting a 'Power Calibration Error' when I try to burn and once the disks are placed back into the drive the drive says it's a cd and not DVD at all and if I try to open these dvd's, even some times old ones that burnt fine ill get, 'F:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function'.

Im using an old OEM of Nero though I get the same on nero 6. I also get the same with Ulead so its not Nero I don't think as I can also burn cd's . Ive changed the entire drive and reinstalled windows and tried every media option available.

Im convinced its windows XP pro. Ive got sp2 installed and have enabled disk burning in the properties menu of the DVD.

Any suggestions would be great. This is infuriating me

It will either be -

1) The media you are using is crap

or

2) Your burner is knackered.

thanks Jen but you clearly didn't read what i said. Ive replaced the entire dvd unit/burner and tried every media under the sun including the most expensive with the same result.

So, no, thats not it.

Im sure its windows

Sorry missed that bit, have u tried it on a different IDE channel ? Also try upgrading the burners firmware.

Also try burning using XP's built in burning system, if that still doesnt work then sorry haven't a clue without actually seeing the PC.

yeah flashed firmware. Ive think ive worked out what it is. it's dust in the drive. And thats after ive spent hours workin' on everything else including formatting and reinstalling windows.

I got the old drive to work thats been in a box for 3 months after that broke down with the same error. I guess its clean now.

So took the new, better drive apart to clean it and now that wont work at all. Wont even read let alone burn.

I showed it what for, hey?

Anyway,, got one workin' now and ill take the new one back as it's less than a year old. Hope they dont realise i did some DIY on it.

Thanks for the help

Also dodgy discs or bad quality discs can cause a power calibration error.
Also try burning with a lower speed?
I still have this problem too. I think my computer is dying though.
