MP3 Player not recognising "artist" after conversion of WMA Files

I have an Archos XS100 MP3 player and I have been burning my CD's using Windows Media Player and transferring them to it. I burned my CD's at 128kbps but as my MP3 player is only 3gig it soon got full. Therefore I re-copied the WMA files to the MP3 player using the "copy to CD or device" function in Media Player and selected 64kbps as the quality. This is where things went a bit funny. The MP3 player no-longer recognises the "artist" tag on the converted files. It recognises the track name and the album title, but not the artist. I added the tags using Media Player. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening and how I can convert the 128kbps files to 64kbps while allowing the MP3 player to recognise the artist? If I use the USB to look at the files on the MP3 player on my laptop the "artist" tag is visible and when I copy the 64kbps files off the MP3 player onto the desktop the tags appear to be in-tact so I don't understand why it can't recognise them in the MP3 player itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated, this has been doing my head in all weekend!
