Playing Ps4 Games On A Ps5 System

Ok, so we bought a PS5 complete with physical disc drive at Currys.

During the sale, we we're chatting to the sales person, and we said the reason we're paying a bit extra to get the model with the disc drive was so that we can play our PS4 games, because we have over a hundred of those, as well as about 10 PS5 games in disc form.

So the guy at Currys said yeah thats no problem, you can play PS4 games no problem, but you can't go back to PS3 games.

I think we kinda knew that was the trend that with every new PlayStation system you can go back to one game, so for example a PS4 system will play PS3 games, and so on.

But we have noticed at least one of our PS4 games won't play properly on the PS5.

When I say won't play properly means it loads fine, but when you push the X button to play nothing happens at all.

The particular game in question is the Sega mega drive classics on a PS4 disc which plays fine on our old PS4 system, but although it loads up on the PS5 system which suggests there won't be a problem, its as it the PS5 controller won't let it start the game.

Any suggestions?

Could you simply have some games not compatible? Check here..

You made the correct purchasing decision. The game is a collection of much older games and may be one of the few that do not have backwards compatibility. It's also possible Sega has released a patch for PS5 compatibility. Here are some troubleshooting steps from Gemini https://aistudio.google.com

-Get Online and Update Everything
Connect the PS5 to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.
Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
Select Update System Software and let it install anything it finds.
With the Sega Mega Drive Classics disc in the drive, highlight the game icon on the home screen, press the Options button on the controller, and select "Check for Update." Let it download and install any game-specific patches.
Restart the PS5 and try launching the game again. This solves the problem for most people.

-If It Still Doesn't Work, Re-install the Game
Highlight the game icon, press the Options button, and choose "Delete."
Once it's deleted, re-insert the disc. This will force a fresh installation of the game data from the disc. The console will then check for the necessary updates again.

Non of that seems to work sadly.

The strange thing is my controller allows me to select a game from the 50+ games on the disc, yet when I press X to start the game nothing happens.

In fact I pressed all the buttons but nothing happens.

Surely if the disc is incompatible it wouldn't load.

Would using a ps4 controller work?
