Yes, my laptop needs replacing - this I know.

However my Asus - using Windows 10 - keeps locking up from time to time to leave me with a dark screen and I need to turn the power back on and enter my security etc. A little frustrating to say the least....the question being is there a simple way I can stop this from happening?

Thanks in advance.....

Does this happen whilst you are using it?

Question Author

yes - though mostly when I break for a couple of minutes

Is it switching itself off, shutting down in to sleep mode or is the screen going black with fans running, lights on etc?

My initial thoughts are that your machine is overheating due to clogged up fans

Question Author

going black, fan running - and does so for about a minute or so and the orange light goes off for the white none to show.......,

could be right on the fan issue - anything I can do to alleviate it.

thank you.....

Question Author

white one, not none..... the other thing is that it can go for a few days before collapsing.......(as it just has).

Open the laptop and blow the fans. It something that should be done regularly, especially if you have furry pets, caged birds or smoke.

Many thanks, Barry...much appreciated.

Hope it fixes the problem

Overheating ? You can download free monitor progs to tell you how things are going. May be dust in any of the fans, including any internal ones taking heat away from processor or the video card.
