Having to live with my mother I have to watch coranation Street and eastenders, the sets are not realistic at all, blinds on every window, all lights on lamps cooker hood light even when there out, police that take people down the station without a warrant, mechanics that have pristine clothes and huge spanners that would not fit any nut under that perticul car, perhaps some better set dresses and advisors.
still thank full for some where to live!

With regard to the sets - if curtains and blinds are drawn, it saves the set makers from having to adjust things like weather patterns, passers by, and so on, which is much easier to deal with.

If you think about it, everyone's house or flat in soapland is like a recording studio - totally soundproof. The only sounds you hear are related to the dialogue at the time - never a slammed door, neighborhood noise, cars hooting, toilets flushing, nothing.

As for the accuracy of clothing, equipment and so on, the genuine articles would distract people from what they are meant to be paying attention to, which is dialogue and body language, especially facial expressions.

The accuracy of anything else simply doesn't matter.
It occurs to me that you might not know as much as you think you do.

Anyway, here's a start:

dpuglas - // It occurs to me that you might not know as much as you think you do. //

What I know is based on hanging around for hours on soap sets - Corrie, Brookside, and others, waiting to interview actors, and talking to lighting technicians, set builders, and camera crews.

I am never averse to learning more than I know about absolutely anything - but nothing in your link gainsays the points I made.
When I'm addressing you I'll raise an eyebrow, as usual.

It's not all about you y'know.

Now, continue in your usual vein and criticise me for not being specific etc for an interminable time. [raises eyebrow]
I can't answer for the two mentioned soaps (never watch them)...but I have noticed that all interior scenes on just about any programme have all the wall/table lights on, even in the middle of the day.
I'm sitting here on the set of Perry Mason and its flipping freezing .
Will someone please close those curtains ?
As for noises outside I have noticed recently that in all soaps when there is an outside scene there is a dog barking in the background. My dogs kick off whenever a dog barks on tv and it drives me mad.
And no matter how long it takes , everyone waits till the other one finishes talking afore they speak .Everyone talk over every one else and
it could be over afore the ads start .
Douglas, I never think it is all about me, and I have no criticism of your post, apart from its inaccuracy.

As I said, I am always keen to learn, but experience tells me I already know as much as I need to about your pet subject - pointless off-topic personal sniping, so I will be looking to continue my education from any posts except yours.
As an avid fan of Corrie (not Eastenders), there are often net curtains up at the windows on the small terraced houses, not blinds.

Roger, police do not need a warrant to carry out an arrest for lots of crimes.
Having visited the set of Corrie about 4 years + ago, as Shirley says, the windows have net curtains, not blinds
pssst..it's no' real !!!
Of course it’s real Minty ,everyone knows a Ken Barlow or a Gail Platt or whatever her name is now ! ( hehe)
And of course people live in the same small house all of their lives and allow many others to stay over the years in all the multiple bedrooms these tiny houses have. Honestly, minty !
Haha,those terraced houses are Tardis’s
They are indeed Bobbs and that small flat of Emma's has, surprise, surprise THREE bedrooms !
