What is the alternative to active climate protests?
What steps should we do to tackle climate change, pollution and energy consumption?

Let elected governments implement envirmental/green policys based on there manifestos and adjusted to reflect changed circumstances and advice/lobbying from opposition parties and scientists. Perhaps have a working party based on all main parties to advise regular. Protestors should use lawful means and accept the electorates choice of goverment
- Avoidance of plastics (shopping bags, packaging, straws, bottles - strict recycling)
- Ensuring that any investments you have are lodged with ethically sound companies
- Switching to energy companies that deal in renewables
- Limit travel - get a bike for short journeys.
- Donate to the WWF to replant coastal seagrass/seedlings.
- Reduce your water waste
- Reduce food waste
- Buy energy saving lightbulbs and appliances...
As you say....the list is endless and those are just off the top of my head.
I'm curious as to what those who critique (rightly so) Insulate Britain protesters are actually doing.
- Ensuring that any investments you have are lodged with ethically sound companies
- Switching to energy companies that deal in renewables
- Limit travel - get a bike for short journeys.
- Donate to the WWF to replant coastal seagrass/seedlings.
- Reduce your water waste
- Reduce food waste
- Buy energy saving lightbulbs and appliances...

Pollution - remove our dependency on fossil fuels. Pollution is very measurable without unreliable models so can be presented clearer. However, self flagellation is pointless, putting the UK economy at risk when everyone else continues is folly. All you will do is hit the poor real hard. Of course for some extremists that is probably a price worth paying (since they wont be in that number).
Energy consumption? Cut the population. There is no other way.

We do this already although I believe there is a long way to go with plastics that we can do fairly easily without impacting the economy or the poorest.

I guess you have not had much to do with investment funds? Having worked in Investment Banks for most of my life I can assure you many companies declaring to be ethical are far from it, at least ethical in my view of things (which is probably a lot less ethical than you!)

Hmm, seen the problems with energy at the moment? I actually do as I purchase from OVO but lets get real, renewables cannot support the infrastructure at present. There needs to be a realistic and Global aim on this. The current 'conferences' are simply virtue signalling with unrealistic goals.

Haha, lets all the pensioners get on a bike! Not really practiucal especially in winter and outside of a (flat) City.

Never. However there are better organisation for instance I am a life member of the National Trust (no I dont agree with current policies) who do a lot of this and have done so for years. Local is always better than Global where money simply disappears into fat cats pockets.

Agreed, but need to ensure proper sanitation is kept. Making people not use enough water through taxes will backfire as disease rises - again its those at the bottom of the ladder who will pay for your virtuous suggestion.

Bulbs yes, had LEDs in my house for many years. Appliances yes to a degree. What I mean by that are items such as kettles or vacuum cleaners there is no point in just dropping the wattage as that just means the appliance is on for longer defeating the whole object of the exercise.

The science is not clear, it uses modelling which is far from clear and as we know from COVID can be manipulated to project things that dont or are very unlikely to happen.
Besides, if you bothered to read on you would see I pretty much advocate the same requirements but under the pollution banner which is measurable and undisputable.
