The organisers of a wedding in East London, where there were 400 people, have been issued with a £10,000 fine.
Police went to the venue, where windows were blanked out.
Some guests fled. Others were issued fines.
First reports unsubstantiated said it was a Jewish wedding.

doesn't surprise me in the least - there are a lot of very stupid people out there, don't think it will affect them. wrong on every level.
there are lots of example if you just google it, going back to last year.

I work it out that if everyone of the 400 gives £25 the fine will be paid off.
the organiser fine is reported but everyone who attends can be fined too.
i can't find a link to it, but as you say not hard to pay off if everyone contributes, what i can't understand is why don't they understand the police will intervene on events like this. Its not difficult to see 400 people going into a church or venue.
Obviously they haven't paid any heed to Rabbi Daniel Asor's claim that catching Covid may turn you gay:-/
Fines arent effective and anyway there just fixed penalty notices rather than fines and many just refuse to pay dont they.
It would be good if all those attending could be forced to isolate for up to 10 days and maybe in some unused old army barracks or in tents, not allowed back home or to work
Bob //there just fixed penalty notices rather than fines and many just refuse to pay dont they.//
They are in fact fines anyone not paying can be brought to court.
thanks danny, am sure newjudge said some of these werent fines
East London? Oh no, stand by for Peter Pedant practising his "estuary english" on us...
"If you break coronavirus regulations, you could get a fixed penalty notice , the Covid equivalent of a traffic offence like speeding.

Since March, 32,000 have been issued in England and Wales. Penalties rose sharply during England's November lockdown. Almost 6,500 penalty tickets were handed out as police moved more quickly to enforcement."
"If you break coronavirus regulations, you could get a fixed penalty notice , the Covid equivalent of a traffic offence like speeding. " - yes but the fine is still a fine not an invoice like many of the parking "fines" they are like a dog with a bone with these, these are like the ones you see on TV where a £50 parking ticket becomes a grand.
ken "Obviously they haven't paid any heed to Rabbi Daniel Asor's claim that catching Covid may turn you gay:-/"

nope, he said the vaccine can make you gay https://verietyinfo.com/brazileng/religious-leader-advises-believers-not-to-get-vaccine-against-kovid-you-can-turn-them-gay/
Will the school be fined too? Large gatherings needing the booking of a hall are not allowed. Then the windows covered up? And the school didn't know this would take place?
The Mayor tells us similar events have taken place at this venue.

The school website is interesting. Insists "the safety of our students and staff is paramount"..... hmmmm.

Not much we can do except grumble on here....or perhaps everyone who reads about it can email the school....nice, polite but very long emails expressing our disappointment at how they are educating their students, and setting such a good example.
Torah school whose mgt threw up the hands in horror and expressed surprise ( and a few more shock nouns) regret and shock
at their school being used in this way....

Blimey - is is possible to stand in the way of dumb? my experience on AB tells me no
"As well as the £10,000 fine to the organiser, five £200 fixed penalty notices were also given to individuals at the scene. "

It was at a Jewish school in North London, and it does annoy me with these fines, is that they never name names.
// Will the school be fined too? Large gatherings needing the booking of a hall are not allowed.//

no probably not - even I cd organise their group denial that they were never told - and it was let on a "return as was" condition
1) it was a jewish school, but not necessarily a jewish wedding - the school uses a third party to hire out its rooms
2) 5 other guests were given FPNs (why only 5?)
3) i see the school head dies last year from Covid :(
"2) 5 other guests were given FPNs (why only 5?)"

Because everyone else had scarpered and these were the ones they followed home.
