Do you mean it doesn't power on, or it does, but Windows doesn't start?

If it doesn't power on what make and model is it - there may be specific key combinations to your model to force a restart.

Thank you Tuvok and Khandra. It powers up but does not proceed to password block and if I click to try and 'invite' password block screen goes black with a white cursor. The laptop is a Toshiba. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
