We have just been given a new Canon Pixma TS3150 printer. Tried to set it up, but no go. It is a wireless model, but we do not have a wireless router. Cannot find any way of connecting it to the computer with a USB cable. Any help for a non specialist user gratefully received

You could try searching online for a manual. Search 'Canon Pixma TS3150 printer instructions'
Unless it is a very old router I would be VERY surprised if your router is not wireless enabled.

If it IS non-wireless then contact your ISP and get them to send you a new router (it will probably be free)

Why cant you connect it with a USB cable?

Normally a printer cable is USB one end (that plugs in to the computer) and a square connector the other end (that plugs in to the printer). It often comes with the printer.
Canon's own description of that model includes "Hi-Speed USB (B Port)" in the 'Interface' section:
https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_ts_series/pixma-ts3150.aspx?type=drivers&language=&os=WINDOWS%207%20(64-bit)

The full manual, which almost certainly won't be in the box but should have installed itself onto your computer during the set-up procedure, is available here:
http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/4/0300027534/01/TS3100ser_OnlineManual_Win_EN_V01.pdf

The location of the printer's USB socket is shown on page 112 of that document. Running the set-up program from the supplied CD should provide you with the instructions that you need. (If you're using a laptop without a CD drive you can get the set-up software from here : https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_ts_series/pixma-ts3150.aspx?type=download&language=&os=WINDOWS%207%20(64-bit))

Like Guilbert though, I'd be very surprised if your router doesn't support wifi. Almost every router produced in recent years does.

When I connected a cable from the printer (as described by Guilbert) and the USB end into the computer it thought I had connected to a router.
We did not need a wireless router when we started out as there is only one machine and it sits next to the router and is connected by a cable.
According to the spec page it has a USB port.

Thanks folks. Expert came today, turned it on and it worked instantly. As far as I can see he did nothing different to what I had already done. The way of the world I suppose.
