When I start the PC it hangs and says "comodo antivirus might be out of date - click the balloon to fix the problem". It does not matter if you click the balloon or not an hourglass appears and it hangs.

I tried pressing Ctrl Alt Del but no response have to turn off from the drive.

I cannot get in to uninstall Comodo infact I cannot do anything , any ideas please?

Have you tried getting in via Safe Mode? (Press F8 during the boot process). That should start Windows without any background programs (such as Comodo). You could then uninstall Comodo from there if you wanted to.

Can you get in as Safe Mode ?
Question Author
I went into safe mode and when I requested to remove Comodo it said "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in Safe Mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance".

I clicked on Support information and all it says is:
Publisher Comodo.Security Solutions In
Version 7.0.55555.4142
Run System Restore (from Safe Mode) instead.
Question Author
Safe mode reported floppy drive seek failure and also that time of day not set and it also said INVALID configuration info please run Setup program I sorted the floppy drive and set correct date and time but don't know about the setup programmes???
Also you said run system restore from safe mode what do I select ???
Question Author
I found the safe mode restore section and as I paged back through I found an old entry dated 25 10 2006 and on the right hand side it said Removed Comodo internet security premium.

Should I select this as it mentions Comodo removal or pick March this year ??
Try the most recent date first. If that doesn't work, try the older one.

With so many problems though, it might be time to upgrade to a cheap Windows 7 machine (in 'as new' condition, with a clean installation of the operating system), which you could upgrade to Windows 10 if you wanted to (although I wouldn't bother). This is where I buy my computers from:

PS: If you've got a Windows XP disc you can reinstall Windows on top of itself (so that you keep all of your programs and data but get Windows back to a nice, clean state). When I had XP machines I did it loads of times, without any major problems:

PPS: I've just noticed that it's a Dell, so it might have its own 'Repair disc' (which you can use instead of a Windows disc).

I have decided to give up on this as it is far to much hassle. I do have an tablet to use so will abandon my old faithful. Thank you so much for all your time and help.
I think Comodo may be a 'red herring' simply informing you that it needs updating. The hanging being a separate issue. Seems a shame to write the PC off. Can you boot off a CD and perhaps run hard drive checks, memory checks and suchlike ? Perhaps you have a recovery disk that'll fix things.
Ebuyer have several machines under £200 - then you can clean up and sell your old one to defray that cost
Go into safe mode and then msconfig. Untick any Comodo related items on the Startup and Services tabs so they do not start on boot. Then boot into Windows as normal and uninstall Comodo.
