The bar that runs across the top of the page, showing the regular websites I use has disappeared. On Mozilla firefox. Firefox has been running slow for weeks now and I had to force close it down. It was still running in the background and getting late, unable to use it at all I decided to stop whatever it was by using taskmanager. Now I've lost the favourites bar and it's still slowing up.

I am totally against Google Chrome because it is too invasive. Firefox is great, providing it is up-to-date. At present, it should be showing on one's computer/laptop as being 37.0.2

Hans I'll have to see, I presumed it was the latest edition that I have refreshed to. How will I know? I always seem to have Adobe or shockwave crashing.

What I'd do in your situation, AYG, is as follows:

1. Download a fresh copy of the Firefox installation file to a convenient location on your computer (such as your desktop or 'Downloads' folder) but DON'T run it yet.

2. Open Firefox as usual and export your Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file.
(Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Back Up > Export Bookmarks to HTML. Save your file to anywhere convenient, such as your desktop)

3. Completely uninstall Firefox (via your Control Panel)

4. Run the new installation file, to reinstall Firefox.

5. Open Firefox and import your old bookmarks. (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Back Up > Import Bookmarks from HTML. Navigate to the location of the bookmarks file you created and double-click on it).

6. Reinstall any extensions you require, as per my post at 2322.

I've looked at the add-ons but none of them seem to be stable for firefox.

Use English (British) and the Windows download link. (It's the first one)

Is that from the list of extensions that you've already got installed or from a list of ones that you're considering installing? How do you know that they're not stable for Firefox?
At the very top of your Firefox page you should have, on the left hand top, a line which reads ...File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help....Click 'Help' then 'About Firefox'.

@methyl....Strange that you are finding 'Shockwave Flash' unstable. I have 17.0.0.169 and am Not having any problems.

Hans.
^^^I've absolutely no idea where you're looking, AYG!

(With apologies to AYG)

Methyl: Any thoughts on this one?

My apologies ayg if I appear to be digressing into conversation with methyl. Nevertheless, you may concede that issues are still relevant to your problem.

There is an advantage in disabling Flash unless really required. However, I am Not troubled by Adverts and am surprised methyl that you might be.!!!

I am particularly interested in this thread and, as I am now off to 'beddy-bies', I shall look in again tomorrow.

However, before departing to the land of Nod, I wish to agree with an earlier comment from Buenchico...........//I wouldn't touch Facebook with a billion of the proverbial bargepoles.//......Furthermore, I would also add Twitter to the sites which are reprehensible.
