Lenovo A10/ Garmin Edge 500

My OH is not particularly computer savvy so I thought I would buy him an entry level tablet for Christmas to see if he can get on with one, I have set up the Lenovo A10 with all his usual stuff in parallel with his laptop but was wondering he could upload his cycling information from his Garmin Edge 500 directly to his Strava programme (NOT to an App), the Edge has a normal sized USB cable which connects it to the laptop, if I bought a Mini USB could anyone tell me if this would work and if the two devices would be compatible, thank you.
I have Googled as much as I can on the Garmin site and Lenovo write ups and reviews and have not found anything to help me.
