No picture of a magnifying glass? What sort of things are you wanting to search for? A document? A scan? A downloaded file?...

Wherever you saved it to!
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/save-file#1TC=windows-8
If you can't remember, use Search, and click on the link when it appears.
That's a rather vague question but, in general terms, the opposite of 'Save' is 'Open'.

So, to retrieve a saved document, go to File > Open (or press Ctrl and the letter 'o' simultaneously), navigate to the location of the file that you require (such as 'My Documents' or 'My Pictures') and double-click on it (or single-click and click on 'Open').
It depends where you saved it to. If you just pressed SAVE it may depend on what it was - a word document, a picture, a download, a scan.... they may all go to different places. Occasionally when i download attachments from emails I have trouble finding them

where do i find search and where do i find file?
Click on start icon and search is an option
The exact wording on mine is 'search Programs and files'
'Search' is available from the 'Start' button in all versions of Windows (except for Windows 8.0, which doesn't have a Start button!).

Exactly what you'll see depends upon the version of Windows that you're using but, for example, with XP you go to Start > Search > For Files or Folders. Fill in all or part of the filename (or part of the text of a document) and click 'Search'. When the file is found, double-click on it to open it with the default program.
Click on start icon. My documents comes up in the list.File is top left hand corner of computer on the bar along with-edit,view,favorites,tools and help. At least it is on mine .

If you click on my Documents do you get a search documents option in there? (Mine's in the top right)
When I click on My documents ----yes ,there is a search facility at top right corner.

i wrote a letter. i hit save. voila. disappeared.,
Did you write it in Word? Is it listed under Recent Documents?
If you wrote a letter and hit 'Save' you should have been presented with a box where you could name the file. Did you and, if so, can you remember the file name?
Or look in your Recycle bin in case you accidentally sent it there
Click on the start button and then in the search box type some of the words you know you used in the letter. I'm presuming you can't remember what you called it. It should then appear.
Hi Yorky Lass- we've been down that route but norm doesn't seem to have the start button and search facility
normchurch----Did you type this letter in Word?.If so then go back into Word and click on the History icon at the top of the page ;you will then be able to see and open anything that you have done.
Oh I see. I thought he meant he didn't get My Documents listed.
