I'm running XP under Windows 7. A while ago when I did the magic incantation Alt,Ctl, Del to invoke task manager instead of displaying in its normal window with the tabs to see the task list, CPU usage and whatever the third was it chucks the task list at me. In order to then close the program I have to close the taskmgr.exe process. How do I get the process to display normally?

Try double-clicking on any empty area of the Task Manager display (e.g. around the border).

We are confused. XP and Windows 7 are operating systems you can only use on at a time on the same pc. So, which one are you using?
'on' = 'one'

XP Professional Edition SP3, SlackAlice.
I'm also confused!

Have you tried opening the Task Manager by right-clicking on a blank space on the task bar (at the bottom of your screen) and clicking on 'Task Manager'?
SA.....My thoughts also.

v_e...It would also be interesting to know. "Why were you performing magic Incantation.?"

Same result, BuenChico.
Another way to start the task manager is Ctrl+Shift+Esc (more than one way to skin a cat ☺☺) although Buenchico's is the quickest.

Try a re-boot and try again. If it still happens let us know.

Using a product like Virtual PC (and others) you can run one operating system inside another.

I have used Virtual PC to run say Windows XP on a computer that had a running version of Windows 7 on it (to do some testing under Windows XP on a Windows 7 computer)

Thanks, BeenChico, that's it!
And thanks to all of you who replied.
I have had the same problem for months. I'd be interested to see any recommendations to fix it.
Thanks from me too.

You are quite correct, but I didn't think it related to the thread, so omitted it in order to prevent a muddying of the waters.

Apologies.
