First off, make sure you've got them plugged in fully. Right click on the 'speaker' icon in the taskbar and select playback devices. Your headphones should be listed there. If not then either the connector on the pc is faulty or the headphones are not plugged in correctly.

You have got them plugged in the correct place?

Quite often there is another connector close by for microphone. Sometimes they are colour coded, pink for microphone and green for headphones.

Thanks SlackAlice - yes in the right place and the playback listing say plugged in and working ??????

Sorry anyway they are NOT ( working I mean )
They should show up in the list. If they are not there it could mean the socket is faulty. Try wiggling it around a bit ☺☺☺.

Have a look at the back of the pc, should be another lot of connectors there. Try unplugging your speakers and trying your headphones there. If they work there then your headphones are ok.
