Have Been Trying Kmplayer But Not Happy

Have tried KM Player on recommendation to view home vids but all it does is squeeze them into a cinemascope mode i've tried readjudsing its screen settings but no luck. Is there another videoplayer worth trying or perhaps i,m adjusting the wrong thing, winows player doesn't accept my video codec very well

It's certainly very, very good but I think that GOM (which is less well known) is even better!
