'page not found' etc....

90% of the times I type in a www address, click on a link or a my favorite link the standard error page comes up - ie, 'page not found - check connection - site may be down' etc, etc. I have to click on refresh and then the page displays - please help me fix this!

There isn't a problem with my connection it's a strong wired broadband connection. I haven't changed any settings or installed anything new. It started happening over the last couple of weeks. It feels as if my laptop is too quick for the connection and therefore it can't keep up?

It's driving me crazy - anyone help please.

ronianna,sorry to hijack your post,but my laptop is doing exactly the same thing,and it has also only been happening for the past couple of weeks.Perhaps it could be something to do with your broadband.What provider do you use?I use NTL.Could it be something to do with your laptop,what make/model is it.Mine is an Acer Aspire 1362wlmiand is only 2 months old.
Try deleting your temporary internet files.

No problem TEAK36, I just need to find a solution. I'm a Brit living and working overseas so my broadband is completely different (very good 10Mb!! and 110% robust - well has been for almost a year). I'm using a Dell laptop which is only 3 months old so?

KERPLUNK, I use a window washer program which deletes all these types of files each time I close my browser - so I guess it's not that. (I have always used this same program and haven't re configured it lately).

In that case, which operating system is it?  Do you use user profiles?  Try logging on as a different user and see if the same thing happens.

Have now tried using a different User Login but the same still happens. I'm using Windows XP btw.

You might want to check your proxy settings. I'm not sure what would cause them to go wrong, but if they are, it could cause your problem. You want to go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings.

You could also try a different browser? Like firefox?

I agree it might be your DNS settings on your internet account, try checking there

Thanks guys, appears to have fixed the problem. I needed to tick the box - 'auto detect settings'. Don't know how it became un ticked - never mind - very happy bunny now.
