My old computer was crashing 2 or 3 times a day, so I got rid and now have a new one. The Quick Launch Bar at the bottom of the screen is twice as wide as it needs to be, and icons at the right hand end (the sim tray I think it's called) are crowded together in layers on top of each other. How can I get this back to normal please? I have Windows XP.

Cant help with the icons on the right, but if you right click on the task bar and untick lock the task bar you can then widen or make thinner the bar
First, right click on the taskbar and ensure that 'Lock the Taskbar' is not ticked.

Then hover the mouse pointer over the top edge of the taskbar until you see a vertical two-way arrow. Hold down left mouse button and slowly drag the bar downwards until it becomes normal height.

If you 'overrun' and the bar disappears, hover the mouse at the bottom edge of the screen until the two arrow appears, and drag it back up.

Finally right click on the bar again and tick 'Lock the Taskbar'.

Thank you both for these answers. I hadn't realised the problem was that the task bar was locked.
