i have a persistent pop up from time to time claiming to be from adobe, any ideas on how to remove it please.

Are you sure it isn't from Adobe? It could well be.
What does it say?

It could be a genuine software update message.

Are you on mac or PC?

Doy you just have Acrobar Reader or do you have any other Adobe software installed?
Is it asking you to update Adobe Flash?

If so then go ahead and instal lit.
Is the pop up asking you to update the adobe?
If it's so. please just update.
But make sure the pop up is from the real adobe site.
Some fake site alerts you adobe update to scam you into downloading malicious program.
