Thank you Buenchico and rojash for all those helpful suggestions. My student neighbour came in and read them and fixed it in 10 minutes - not sure whose instructions he used, as had other visitors at the time, so couldn't watch. But i am very grateful for such prompt help and support from you both and can now print out all the help for future reference! Cheers - Flic

Looking at your original question I cant believe all the people who made suggestions like do a Syetem Restore and other drastic measures.

All that had happened on your computer was that your default printer had changed from your HP to "One Note 2007" (which is a virtual printer).

All you had to do was find the icon for your HP printer, right click on it and select "Set as Default printer".

If it happens again that is all you need to do.
VHG, I agree that system restore seems to be regarded as some sort of universal panacea by some on here.

Thanks for that VHG. You are right as he set the default as you said. I wonder if I shall ever feel a bit more confident to experiment a bit!! ( Before I go totally senile!!) :-)
