Hi, and good morning,Having changed to a new PC,( currently using Xp pro but soon to change to Windows 7) I am being plagued by Adverts from sights I have visited when using IE, I know these come from a site that if I go to I can 'turn this off' or' unsubscribe'. The problem is that I have forgotten what this site is . Can anyone help ?. I have added ad-block to Firefox ok but there are times I need to use IE. Any guidance much appreciated.

Are you talking about pop-ups?

and why on your new PC? is this because you have transferred your favourites folder?
Set google as your home page, install the Google toolbar and turn on the pop up blocker.

Further to my post, I have a feeling it's something to do with Flash Player storage, does this ring a bell with someone ?
Also, turn on In Private Filtering. It stops a lot of the cr@p.

There is a registry setting to keep it on by default.

Thanks, someone told me to right click on the advert and it would direct me to the site the advert was coming from ,but I'm none the wiser what to do
THIS is what to do ... you will see VERY little (if at all) after this (you may get a replaced page message in the empty space tho .. this is generated by your Windows to replace the crap) ..

Go here .. and download the hosts.zip file .. Unpack it and do as told.
You can change back if you don't like it! ...

Microsoft guy's page .. been around for years .. although the file needs updating from time to time (I do mine once a year)

Thanks ,AlBags, bit complicated for me but I'll pass the link to my IT boff and get him to add it when he installs Windows 7
For Windows 7 .. follow this ..

http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hostswin7.htm

It's too easy! : )
Heres a list of the crap/sites it blocks completely. ...
Anything you actually WANT .. you open the installed hosts file with notepad and delete/save the applicable line.
It will then NOT be blocked.
