What is ESPN?

ESPN, The Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, is a television channel dedicated to screening a plethora of sports from across the globe.

ESPN was launched on the 7th of September 1979 and is one of the longest running sports channels in the world.

Originally viewable only in America, ESPN has since expanded its services into other territories, such as South America and most recently Europe.

ESPN are renowned for their coverage of almost every sport on the planet. Not only do they provide coverage of football, tennis, golf, hockey, baseball and basketball, they frequently show poker, extreme sports and even competitive videogaming. This huge level of diversity is ESPN's biggest selling point, drawing in millions of subscribers from all over the world.

In 2009 ESPN moved their coverage to Europe and now boast a number of channels, including a HD and 3D package, covering sports from across the globe. ESPN also have rights to air a number of European football leagues and competitons, including the Barclays Premier League and FA Cup.

Although not quite as popular as Sky's sports coverage in the UK and Europe, ESPN is certainly doing all it can to win the hearts of sports fans by offering affordable viewing packages and a host of interesting sporting events.
