With the World Cup just a few days away, I thought I'd get the football juices flowing by asking what you think is the greatest England goal ever scored?

The goal doesn't have to be rated on technical merit alone, it can be based on the magnitude of the game, time of the goal etc.

My two favourite goals are below:

David Beckham Free Kick vs. Greece

A fantastic goal that saw England automatically qualify for the 2002 World Cup Finals in Japan/Korea. Not only did this goal send us through, it also marked the World Cup Redemption of David Beckham after his sending off in France '98. The right man, in the right place, at the right time. Magic.

Paul Gascoigne vs. Scotland

A great goal from a great England player, leaving Colin Hendry's on his backside with a magnificent piece of skill that sticks in English minds even today. Not only was the technique to get around Hendry inch perfect, it was followed up by an immaculate right foot volley, beating Andy Goram in style.

Please post your greatest England goals here. Hopefully we'll get a nice archive going.

The excitement is getting too much for me now... A week is just too long to wait!

Gazza's v. the Jocks for me

Barnes goal was the only decent thing he ever did for England
joe, I ws just going to post the same thing gazza at Wembley against Scotland.
Best ever celebration of an England goal too
Geoff Hurst's 4th Goal in 1966 World Cup Final v West Germany
I agree with both of the suggestions but would also add David Platt's goal in Italia 90 vs Belgium
or maybe......

Michael Owen vs Argentina as this really brought him to the 'big time'.
Bobby Charlton's 30yd screamer in the 1966 world against Mexico, gets my vote.
I cant keep watching all these, making me too excited
kinda hoping that the real answer will be available on July 11th. Come on England!!!
or the 12th when we actually play lol
Charlton's goal Enter URL
Graeme Le Saux against Portugal in 1995. Sorry cant find it on the net.
redman beat me to the one I was going to nominate - Geoff Hurst, 1966. I ran down to the Post office a few days later to buy the limited edition England Winners postage stamps - I've still got them somewhere.
some fantastic goals there, if I really had to choose one then it would be Gazzas' in the Euro 96 against Scotland. lets' hope that it's going to be Wazza's in 2010 the next time a Q like this comes around :-)
