Chlorine in swimming pools

Can anyone tell me what amount of chlorine should be used in swimming pools. The pool I use (part of a national fitness organisation) is causing skin irritation and eye problems for some.
I feel that those "in charge" of the pool water are inexperienced and have not been trained correctly. Before challenging the management I need to be sure of my facts.

It's amazing what you can find on the BBC website!

That is very interesting, Buenchico -- and the BBC not where one would expect such information. Thank you, I will print it out and study it before tackling the fitness club.
I was there this morning and one of the ladies who has been a member for several years told me she is getting skin irritation.
