Watching a you tube footy video it said Dave Beasant was the first keeper to save a fa cup final since Willy (William) Merriman. I've had a quick look and what a man he was, but I haven't seen anything to say whether he did or didn't.

Any footy historians on here can verify or deny?

From Wukipedia:
"He became the first goalkeeper to save a penalty in an FA Cup final when he blocked John Aldridge's spot-kick for Liverpool in 1988, and in doing so helped Wimbledon secure a 1–0 win. He was also the first goalkeeper to captain his team in an FA Cup final since Major William Merriman in 1875."

Ah, so it was captaining the team, not saving a penalty.
