Is it just me or they talking much much more during the frames? It's starting to annoy me so much that I'm switching the sound off. Or am I just getting grumpier as I get older?

You're right, Virgo has needed the boot for a long time now. He seems to encourage others with his incessant drivel.

They annoy me as well. Especially John "WHERE'S THE CUE BALL GOING" Virgo

I am always happy to hear insight during the game from a professional who knows what the player is looking at, and what they are looking to do.

Virgo gets right on my thrupneys but I do like the ones that compliment the game well. Mark McManus, Neil Foulds, Ken Docherty, Hendry all add something.

For some reason Virgio has made up his own terms for common snooker terms. For example he insists on saying "Shot for nothing" it's "Shot TO nothing" you wally!

A-H, surely most snooker fans know what that player is trying to do! Well being an ex obsessive player I did.

Piggy - I don't think so. Most understand the rules, but the technicality of plans for future shots are not obvious to the majority, so a little advice is always helpful.

I don't really listen to the commentary even if I have it on.

At a comp. a little while ago they had 2 ex-world champs commentating and 2 ex-world champs doing the analysis. Can't think of another sport where that happens.

I also enjoy hearing a commentator who knows his business but what gets me is the constant talking. They talk over the shots, they give non stop statistics. I just think they used to talk less. Maybe I'm wrong.

I just mute them!

Me too ILA.  Like you I turn the sound off, but I do flick it back on now and again to get some of the reactions.

Same here ladybirder.

I've not watched snooker for a considerable time now; but surely they are there to comnentate ? Many would find it less watchable otherwise. I suspect you might be getting grumpier, all us normal folk are.

Yes OG, that's their job but all I'm saying is, they don't commentate ( I think ) as they used to. They seem to think they must fill the airwaves with nonstop chatter.
And yes I am getting slightly more grumpier, but only slightly!

As might be expected Stephen Hendry is very good at pointing out the possible shot options. The players don't always comply.

If you don't know (apart from the very obvious ) about shot selection and how to play it , then I guess the comentators giving the audience lots of info is quite alright .

John Virgo is no different to any of the other comentators  in my opinion

Snooker loopy nuts are we ...
But how was I to know you′d bend my earholes too
With your incessant talking?

It's what they are paid to do so you can't really blame the commentators. Just mute if you don't like it.

Eurosport, until it was absorbed into some media monolith, had great snooker coverage. The best of their commentators have moved to terrestrial telly.

ITV have done their bit to keep the game free to air and good old auntie gives a couple of hours a day of the biggest tournament in the sport as befits their status as our national broadcaster. Either do it or don't please.🙄

Has Cliff Thornburn finished that frame yet 😁

Have today's snooker players got nicknames? Or is it just Rocket Ronnie?
