Is Emma turning out to be the flop & disappointment of the year??
Watching her play, she seems to have lost her winning ways.
Currently playing Rybakina, lost first set 6-0!,

boto: "Winning the US Open was a fluke." - Winning a GS tournament cannot be a fluke, crass thing to say.
She's young, gone off the boil, gawd some of you lot make me laugh, fails to win everything put in front of her and she's written off by the armchair sports experts. She'll win GSs again, just a matter of time. It's tough out there but she'll find herself eventually. What was Nav like at her age?
I suspect her head has been turned by recent non tennis activities. She probably needs a shock to make her focus again.
Odd that she parted ways with her coach just after her success.
She's demonstrated she can win a Grand Slam, she'll do it again.
"Such was the one-sidedness of the humbling defeat that Raducanu, 19, immediately returned to the practice court after exiting Ken Rosewall Arena, to work specifically on her serve which was broken five times throughout the match.

She said she was ready to reset for the Australian Open next Monday, noting she was still adjusting after spending three weeks off the court, recovering from Covid-19 last month. "[Rybakina] played a great match, and it just showed me where I'm at in this stage of coming back, recovering," she said."

Two words: Andy Murray.
Zacs...agreed, he could well win the Women's Australian Open. -;)
Aye son, Ye might be right there.
Come on Tim!
A good example of someone who did something exceptional when very young and went off the boil until he built up his experience is the golfer Justin Rose. I like to think Emma has the talent it's now a case of seeing if she has the application.
> She has just been beaten in the Australian Open 6-0,6-1.

No, she hasn't!

And she had Covid last month ... really had it.
I think she peaked too soon.
Andy Murray has won three GS titles. Emma might still achieve that, too.
The press hype that exploded around her after her US win probably did not do her any favours along with the sponsor offers that followed. She needs to find a good coach and advisor. Concentrate on her tennis and limit sponsorship commitments. Also a good sports psychologist would not be a bad thing. Being away from family and the expectations of the press and public is not an easy burden
Being given an MBE - why? Many people have done so much more than her in their lives!
I suspect she may by a one-hit wonder.
I really hope not.
Nothing to do with hype, or distractions, or anything like that.
But sometimes a star explodes when the heavens are aligned just right.
As I say, I'll be delighted to be proved wrong.
She's 19 and still learning the trade, not to mention acclimatising to a new coaching team. I think 2022 is going to be a tough year for her, but she's got 15 or so years of her career left ahead of her.

Writing someone off (almost gleefully) at the first sign of trouble seems to be such a British passtime.
Hopefully the posters on this thread didn't write their own children off for having the temerity to achieve greatness so young ...

Success is the first step towards failure.
Is anyone watching Raducanu in Aussie Open? Son said 1 set each when he just phoned?
