That's the game no one wants to qualify for. An absolute nothing game, I'm glad if they have decided not to have one.

I don't think the Euros have ever had one, just the World Cup.

Results of 3rd place play-offs in the Euros:
1960: Czechoslovakia beat France 2-0
1964: Hungary beat Denmark 3-1 (a.e.t.)
1968: England beat Soviet Union 2-0
1972: Belgium beat Hungary 2-1
1976: Netherlands beat Yugoslavia 3-2 (a.e.t.)

In all of the above competitions though, there were only 4 teams competing in the finals anyway! ;-)

In 1980, there were 8 teams in the finals, with Czechoslovakia and Italy drawing 1-1 in the third place play-off match, which Czechoslovakia then went on to win 9-8 on penalties.

Since then there has never been a play-off for third place:
