Who here thinks it’s right that sports people are now taking a knee before events like F1, football and tennis matches, etc? Is this something that is expected to continue forevermore now? If so, why? I can’t help thinking that nobody dare try and stop it, and any unwilling sports people would be too fearful of criticism, maybe worse, if they don’t do it. What do you reckon?

A totally pointless exercise which the authorities should put an end to.

I don't think it's right that anyone does it in public anywhere.

It's a provocative attention-seeking piece of nonsense, and it is only ever done where an audience is assured, so the participants can parade their pointless anguish in public.
They shouldn't do it. The Australian Cricket team didn't - so neither did the English. No-one should be pressured. This is now purely political and should be stopped in public.
I think sportsmen should grow a backbone and refuse to 'go along with it'.
After all, I doubt many of them are Marxists.
don't know, don't care.

Thanks for BA, Theblip. :)
There should be no pressure on any individual, I personally wouldn't do it.

Not something any of us would do, and have no support for anyone who does.
Well no knee was taken at the U.S. open!!

Which authorities and how do you propose they stop it ?

Who's the "us"?

THEBLIP, you specifically mentioned Formula One.

How many of the F1 drivers took the knee at Sunday's Grand Prix? Was it all of them?
It doesn't affect my enjoyment of a sport. My biggest concern at the moment is about the correct implementation of VAR rather than what the players do before a ball is kicked.
Knee to the groin. End of.
Mercedes Benz appear to be condoning this if not participating, by painting their racing cars black (they've been silver for 100+ years) and having the team in black overalls. The T shirt stunt by their lead driver yesterday shows how easily these things can get out of hand and they may well see sales suffer, particularly in North America.
As for resolution of the knee fad, yesterday gave the FIA the perfect excuse to take the lead and stop it in their sport with only a few people involved. They can threaten to withdraw the racing licences from any drivers or teams that bring politics of any shade into the sport - as they would with safety, health and other issues.
