Sad news from Andy, he is retiring as he is in great pain. It will now be up to Kyle Edmund to fill the breach.

Should have retired when he realized his injuries were so severe.... —————- To be fair that’s easy to say with hindsight but given that he’s a true sportsman with a never-say-die attitude up to this point it’s difficult. He’s a professional, he wouldn’t just throw in the towel on a whim and the realisation that it’s over for him has...

Karma, some might say. (not me)
Should have retired when he realized his injuries were so severe....has family to consider also , plenty of business interests to occupy him.. I wish him well and thank him for the exciting times he gave us....
I agree with minty.
great player and will be missed.
Sad news. I hope he find relief from his pain.
Bless him, I'm just watching the interview.
A premature end to an excellent career. He can look back on his achievements with immense pride and, hopefully, he could take up a coaching role to pass on some of his skills to our younger players.
Very sad news. What a star he is. Unfortunately I thought this would happen soon. No way he can play in pain, especially with all the young guns coming up.
I wonder how long untill he’s representing a mens fragrance
I don't think that's really his style, spath. He's not David Beckham!
I really hope he can make it to Wimbledon, and retire after the tournament that defined his career.

Sad news. There have been few more successful British sportsmen.
He has already said he doesn't think he can play through the pain for another 5 months until Wimbledon. His health should come before anything else.
So sad, one of the best Scottish sportsmen in many years.
//Karma, some might say. (not me)
Why would some say that then?

Stupidity ?
Aye anne, they must think he’s done something pretty severe for karma to end his career

Sad day for Scottish sport. I think he should go now, as you say health come first. He doesn't want to end up in a wheelchair. I certainly don't believe it's karma.
Karma for what, exactly? Being a bit dour? What rubbish to even bring that up
Was so sorry to read this news today. A great ambassador for Scotland and sport.
so sad to lose our well loved & respected sports icon. I hope he finds peace with loss. I will miss him competing.
