Just read on ceefax about his autobiography when Moeen was playing against the Aussies. When one of them referred to him as"Obama" He could have meant that he looked like an American president,or he took it as an insult because Obama is black,if so he is no better than the Aussie.Or have I missed the point completely?

Osama
Did he take it as an insult (I’ve not read the book)?
It sounds like typical sledging - at which the Australian test teams are world masters - I am sure Moeen ignored it, regardless of the meaning behind it.
LOL if that’s right Talbot.
I cross-posted with Talbot - that makes sense now, and yes, it is just sledging.
Just sledging?

Calling him a terrorist?
It may have meant as being "just sledging", but there are certain lines that shouldn't be crossed in that context. I would venture to suggest that saying someone looks like a terrorist is one such line.
I'm not usually one see racism where none exists, but if the Australian did compare Moeen to Osama bin Laden that is disgraceful.

Of course he might have said 'part-timer' as he claimed.
Talbot and Jim - I am not for one moment condoning or excusing such a comment, it is clearly unacceptable.

In the context of a Test Match, especially with the Australians, they appear to regard any and all sledging as fair play. It's designed to get under the opponent's skin and put him off, and it appears that in this instance, it was successful.

LOL...you've got to know the Aussie sense of humour.

"Osama"
"Who slept with your old lady last night?"
" My mate says that your wife said that he was better in bed than you"

Banter.....Aussie banter....mainly confined to Aussie cricket.
2003 Windies v Aus:

McGrath to Saran, "What does Brian Lara's d--k taste like?"

"I don't know, ask your wife," Sarwan replied.
LOL ^^^
I do believe the Aussies are known for sledging, but maybe they should actually be held to proper standards of behaviour from now on.
well, they are, jim, the captain and opening batsman have been suspended for a year, though not for the Osama jibe.

Rod Marsh to Ian Botham: "How are your wife and my kids?"

Botham: "The wife's fine, the kids are retarded."
LOL ^^^^
Test cricket is a special club of elite members with their own code of ethics and long may it continue.
funny how the ones you hear in this country tend to involve Poms getting ther own back on Aussies

Mark Waugh - brother of the more famous Steve - to James Ormond: "Jeez, are you the best player England can find?"

Ormond: "At least I'm the best player in my family."
Less offensive sledging - legendary Australian bowler Merv Hughes was referred by the facing (English) batsman as a 'fat bus conductor'. When Hughes bowled him out with the next ball, he simply said "Tickets please …".
