I had to tape the last set and a half - have just watched it and I'm totally over the moon for Andy - he has come close so often before and this was a classic - brilliant, Andy!
It was the most exciting match I've ever seen.
Djokovic/Murray/Fix
Mark Rae,

Yes it was, I could hardly bear to watch it because Murray's come so close so often before, but now he's finally arrived in the big time.

Let's hope for many more.
Wharton,

You must be one embittered SOB to say that?
Kerosene
my three-legged cat could beat Murray
Murray and Djokovic are (millionaire) pals
C'mon Wharton, man up and tell us the real reason for your hatred of Andy Murray - bet you won't?
Bet you said the same when he won the Olympic gold...what a nasty post Wharton .probably the worst I've seen here.
The lad was magic same as in London...
good morning commoner.

this is very good news to wake up to -- it has been a long time coming, and he has finally done it.

well done murray.
Mornin' ex1...looks like Wharton has at least one supporter on this...sir Alec seems not to like the Scottish lad either....
Shame that some folk have to go down that road....must have their reasons I suppose-?????
well .. people are entitled to their views. however ..
what i don't understand is why wharton has to post such venemous words .. he has even, in one post, threatened murray.
why can;t people be a little more diplomatic with their language.
excelsior,

I sense a hidden agenda in Wharton's posts and you will see I've challenged him to 'man up' and tell us? So farhe hasn't.

But if it's that old chestnut about Murray allegedly 'hating' the English, then it's as pathetic as the allegation is totally untrue - Murray has never made such a claim and has in fact gone out of his way to say so.

As for those who say 'I just don't like him' is also a false premise because unless they personally know the guy they simply cannot 'know' the man. If they're speaking from his interviews, I've always found the guy articulate, well spoken, fairly shy, perhaps not too comfortable in the limelight.

He actually showed his true colours in defeat at Wimbledon when he demonstrated what losing the final against Federer was like to him, and he apologised profusely for allegedly letting the nation down, which of course he hadn't.
Kerosene........I agree with all you say....however for reasons that were quite clear at the time, Murray came over as an unlikable character to many people, mainly the English and did little to neutralise these reasons.
I was one of the ones who couldn't "take" to Murray.

I am thrilled that he won and now I feel that he will win many more majors..........perhaps even Wimbledon.
...mmm....well he seems to like at least one English person...Kim Sears is English ;-))
sqad,

I also would have loved Tim Henman to have won a Grand Slam- and how many times did he take us to the brink? Yes, a different character to Murray, but no more dedicated or deserving than the Scot?

Don't forget, Murray has been thrust in front of cameras and who knows how many interviewers since he was a laddie, and I still firmly believe that the guy is very shy and retiring. I mean, you don't hear about him 'out on the lash' or beating up his beautiful fiancee etc etc, do you? He comes across as very modest, in fact, a superstar who 'isn't up his own a**e'.
sqad,

Sorry, I forgot to address your remarks insinuating that Murray in some way alienated anyone English? I truly do not understand that because, if you're referring to that infamous 'anyone but England' remark which he admitted to making, then taken totally out of context would justify anyone south of the border in believing that he did indeed dislike the English.

However, the facts of the matter are that, in World Cup year 2006, he was interviewed by the Beeb during which he was asked by a smug interviewer saying to him, "So now that Scotland - ha ha - failed to qualify, who will you be supporting?" To which Murray replied, "Anyone but England - ha ha".

Let's transpose that interview, Scotland have qualified, England haven't, Tim Henman makes the same comment except of course from an England perspective, no one would have batted an eyelid, even in Scotland I believe. But it gave the 'anti Jock knockers' a perfect excuse to at least despise Murray, I hesitate to use the word 'hate'.
Kerosene.....I appreciate and respect all of your comments.......perhaps he would have endeared himself to the English if he HAD gone out on the lash.;-) but he always had his bloody mother with him, miserable face and the epitome of those "pushy mothers" that we have grown to resent.
Yes, i think that he was a shy boy and should be respected for his achievements and desire to be successful.

The comment about him supporting any team that opposes England still rancours among many.

Now we can all try and put that behind us and support the lad.
Sqad,

Yes, I totally agree about his mother, but it's only a few years ago that she stopped being his coach - did you know that? However, and I absolutely loathe it, but it's the fault of the telly cameras which have this infuriating habit during shots of panning over to both players' families and coaches - it makes me want to chuck the telly off a cliff - but I can't stand heights!
Kerosene...LOL...yes I am sure that you are correct.........I have just read the thread on News...........a bit OTT by Wharton in my opinion, but each to his own.
Jeez....just read the stuff by Wharton on the News thread..... Bet he had 50p on the other guy to win....each to his own but glad my own ain't like that...sad.
