Doh - why does he try to make an excuse for not winning? "Just not quite good enough" would do for me.
Why should one team expect all the other competitors to assist in their winning - am new to cycling rules but I thought any competition was every man for himself.

I think tactics play a part in cycle racing. If his rivals rode a race that reduced his chances of winning it must have increased theirs.
Cycling's different, brenden, they ride as a pack, supporting a likely leader. I don't understand it either, but that's what happened so that Wiggins could win the TdF.
Yes, they all ride as a team even though it's an individual's race. But you would have thought that with all the careful planning that the team had done that they might have considered scenarios such as the one that occurred.
clearly leading from the front is less risky than trying to catch up from the back
