The red arrows are banned from the 2012 olympics, for being to british, and would be offensive to other countries,so say the dept of culture media and sport who are they?also they said that the arrows are too militaristically british, red arrow pilots are said to be outraged ,as they had planned a show that had never been seen before to celebrate the games, this was sent to me by email from a friend so have no link, hope that this isnt true and let common sense prevail!!!!

At the moment we are deeply involved in conflicts where we are up against muslims. Some of the pilots in the RTed Arrows may have been involved in bombing/straffing missions against taliban positions which may offend moderate muslim countries as they will see it as a celebration of Great Britains military might instead of a sporting occasion
I find this very hard to believe.

Dont care what they think!!if the red arrows good enough to do a flypasts all over the world and in this country, these arent fighter aircraft just display aircraft, and have been part of this countries celebrations for many years!!!!
Outrage! Shock! Scandal! I didn't die in the war for this you know!

See, that's the mentality you get when you take your 'news' from the Sun and Daily Mail, without actually checking that it's a load of tosh... Story's untrue by the way.

That is absolute nonsense (not the post puddicat, the decision). Yes, I take 4GS's point about some of the pilots potentially having been involved in missions against the Taliban, but isn't that being a tad oversensitive. Aren't the Olympics about human achievement? And isn't the way the Reds fly just another form of human achievement? The skill with which they handle those planes and the manoevres they carry out is absolutely breathtaking. I see this as the slippery slope to banning something that brings joy to thousands because it may offend someone.

Mind you, I am biased cos they very kindly did a full on display at my wedding 11 years ago (not organised I hasten to add, just damn lucky) - it made my day. I wrote to their Commanding Officer afterwards to thank them and had a charming reply in response.
Thanks Whickerman, I can climb down from my high horse of righteous indignation now!!!!
Even if it were true, I think I would agree.

The Olympics is not the place for a military display of any sort would we watch in awe at the Chinese army tramping about for the Beijing Olympics? I doubt it. What would that say to the world? We have an army, the biggest in the world, and here we all are to show you that youd better not mess with us.

As said above, the RA is a military attach of the Paras. The Olympics are about the people and the sport globally, not a nation's professional military display team.

Did you know that the drummers in the opening ceremony in Beijing are all members of the Chinese Army?
