Today sees the start of the 2022 PGA Championship and this year the tournament comes from Southern Hills Country Club, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the scene of Tiger Woods' last PGA Championship win back in 2007.
A lot of water has flown under the bridge since then; the design of the course is quite different and Woods is not the force of old. He can still swing a club, but walking is difficult for him and his putting often lets him down. Putting is also currently a problem for Jon Rahm - a problem he will no doubt eradicate sooner or later, but i'd rather not take the chance it will disappear during this tournament.
Rory McIlroy is among those touted by some to lift the trophy on Sunday but, imho, he often flatters to deceive, his last win in a 'Major' coming back in 2009.
Where then is my £25 bank being spent? Well, my inexpert eye has fallen on 3 players who may do very well over the next four days and who may enhance that bank.
Jordan Speith has the all-round game which ought to suit this course (to a tee?) and i have had a £2 win on him to win outright @ 18/1 with Bet 365.
Hideki Matsuyama is another who ought to appreciate this course and he is also in good nick. £1.50 e.w. @ 25/1 to 8 places.
If Shane Lowry brings his 'A' game to Southern Hills, he could be in there at the top end of the leaderboard at the death and i have had £1.50 e.w. @ 25/1 to 12 places with Skybet.
I don't believe Joaqin Niemann has the stamina to play a role in deciding where the trophy will go, but he is often a quick starter and i have had £1.50 e.w on him to be the clubhouse leader at the end of the first day's play. He is 50/1 (to 7 places) with Skybet.

That takes care of £11 of my £25 bank.

Hoping these 4 players come out on top in today's first round threesomes;

Matsuyama, Speith, Hatton and Lowry. £2 acca @ 36/1 - Bet365

All 3 of my guys are playing well below themselves but all have made the cut.
Bubba Watson shot a superb 63 yesterday (after a poor first round of 72) to move into 4th place on the leaderboard, 4 strokes behind the overall leader, Will Zalatoris. That round will have done Watson's confidence no end of good, yet he is still 20/1 to win. I've just had £2.50 e.w. to 4 places.
