TalkSport's ginger bumbler reckons that Saturday's result was the highest-ever score in an opening day game in the Football League.

He may well be right, but as he is more often wrong with stuff he says, I'd prefer to be told that is correct by HammondEgg or some other reliable oracle, please.

So, is it true?

yeah, perhaps things were a little bit different in those days - by the way got to grips with the off side rule ref!

I'm presuming that Swindon were the home team and that they won 9-1?

Perhaps Parry meant to say that Colchester's 7-1 was the highest-ever opening day away win?
