..aye,I know the Semi-final is contested on neutral ground(Don"t know how far back that goes?)...and Final.
If, I mean MaJOR if... that has ever happened that's going to take some research unless stacho's on-line :-) do you mean from the preliminary rounds as-well?
Question Author
Well,I imagine one would be able to discount smaller Clubs...

...so most likely 3rd Round.. ..and on to the Quarter Finals
Question Author
...to the Semis..
I have no idea to be honest where to start looking but do like the question. However the comp was founded in 1871, so a more recent year with less changes to the format would be easier... 3rd round entry is only recent due to European composition for top two tiers.

I think some one like Mighty or Jsp or even a quiz master will be better at answering this.
If they can... suggest from round 1, year unknown... a challenge ;-)

89/90 Manchester Utd played their 3rd,4th,5th and 6th rounds away from home and went on to win the trophy . They didn't need replays either .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989%E2%80%9390

man united also did it in 1948 there ground was closed due to war damaged so played their matches at maine road

r3 aston villa (away)
r4 liverpool ( home ) played at goodison park
r5 charlton (home ) played at huddersfield
r6 preston ( home) maine road
sf derby hillsborough
f blackpool wembley united won 4 - 2
Just a small correction about my previous comment - they needed a replay to beat Palace in the actual Final . Both were played at Wembley .
My comment about them not needing replays referred to the 3rd-6th rounds .
The point I was trying to make is that they didn't play a single minute of FA cup football at home .

Thanks to you both, argorstran & DrFilth.
Hello Zhukov..Just noticed this question!
The Cup has been won only twice by clubs drawn away every round..but achieved 3 times.
Technically Man United in 1948 were drawn at home but as quite rightly pointed out they didn't play a game at Old Trafford, so if you count that (and why not!) They were the first.
Arsenal won the Cup in 1971 without being drawn at home but required replays in the 4th and 6th round...Interestingly enough they reached the Final again in 1972 without being draw at home but lost in the Final.

Man United (again) were the last side to win it, in 1990, without a home draw.

It's quite a rare thing,3 times since 1871/72

The first club to reach the Final after being drawn away but winning every match without a replay was Birmingham City but they lost in the Final in 1956.

Thanks v.much for that mightyWBA..

When I thought of this,I"d been to see the Villa at Bristol Rovers- I thought of an away game way back in the 70"s,I went to,League Cup,and I came away thinking from then on our "Name-was-on-the-Cup"... ..and blow me down!We won the Cup!

It carried on until a "Mad 9 minutes",in the second half,at the Emirates! :-(
