I have one of these 'HSBC Customer Update' e-mails in my spam folder. I know it is a scam because I don't bank with them but I am really curious to see what it says.

Is it safe to open it as long as I delete it afterwards without going into any links or shouldn't I even think of looking?

I wouldn't even bother looking it, just delete it. It's phishing. If you want to do anything with it, just forward it to [email protected] so they bank can look into it themselves.
HSBC and these other spam emails usually ask you to update details by clicking on a link and if anyone replies to say "I haven't got an account" the spammers know they've hit a real email address.....
I've had one and it just says about a problem with your account or that they cant sort something out.
You can just click on REPLY and send it to [email protected]
It may help HSBC to catch the swines!!!
No - DON'T click on reply - click on "Forward" and enter the phishing email address - don't run the risk of sending a reply to them!
I must sort out my replies a bit quicker!!!!!

Apologies for the bad info. Just had the distraction of the OH moaning about something and nothing.

I have just received another phishing e-mail, this time supposedly from Lloyds Bank. Does anyone know where I can report it as I did with the HSBC one?
Yep (I am getting quite a collection of phishing-reporting email addresses in my email contacts these days!) - forward it to [email protected]
Just delete them. They already are aware of these (old) methods purporting to be from ALL major banks.

Many thanks. I'll do that right now.
Albags, the banks ask us to forward them so they can investigate - so I do.
