i have been getting some unwanted emails, they always change the name of the person from whom they came( so junk mail won't catch them)The subject matter has become rather unpleasant. Does anyone else get these mails?and is there anyway that i can stop them. At the moment i just delete them but am getting rather tired of receiving them. How have they got my mail address??
The names that these people use are just jumbled up nonsense.
What is the point in these unpleasant mails.

I have my Outlook Express set up so messages do not automatically display.

If I receive an e mail from a name I don't recognise I click on it as spam, for Norton to sift into the spam folder in future. Then I delete it without ever seeing tthe content.
It's just spam. Nothing you can do about it really, if you want a functional email address.

Get a better spam filter (they can be free).

Use Gmail for your email, which has a far better spam filter than the email address your ISP will give you.

Or use something like Mailwasher, if you use Outlook too.

(I'd advise you to use Gmail.)

Hi,
Thankyou for your replies.I never open these mails I sendstraight to the delete folderand delete without opening.
Its the title of the mail thats unpleasant and you can guess what is in the mail if opened.
I thought I had a good spam filter but will do some more checking on this.
Bounce them all back to senders, they will soon get sick.!!

Hi Everhelpful,
I did wonder about doing that, but thought it might give alot more people my mail address.
I see your point, but I would try it and if you get extra unwanted Emails I would change my Email address, drastic,I know but it would solve your problem. Good luck.
I have worked for companies and they tend to get through. I was totally fed up with emails pretending to have money tied up and want money to release it type emails. I got one everyday and everyone had a different sender address. I cmplained to IT at work and they still couldn't stop them coming. Just delete them.

Really annoying but maybe get another email address. I have two email addresses one that I set up on hotmail once and one that my provider gives.
Never, ever reply to them. Don't bounce them back.

It just confirms to the computer doing it that it has found an active e mail address.

Thankyou again all for your replies.
I have had the ones about people wanting money for investments but the ones over the last few months have been rather explcit in their title and I do find this upsetting.
i shall just continue to delete without opening an hope they will give up.I really can't see what these people gain from sending these mails.
I have a fairly public email address (or certainly used to be), and get about 150 mails a day.

Here's a good tip to stop them:

Goto gmail.com, set up a free gmail address.

Gmail can collect mail from other email addresses (such as your current one), and it'll then apply its own spam filters to your mail. So you can then use Gmail, still acting as your current email address.

Make sense?

That way, you won't have to inform anyone of your new address, and you'll still get email. Just the filters will move most spam into the spam folder, which you can check once every few weeks.
