...telling me my tax runs out today and that if I don't renew I'll be fined £1000.  Just one snag - my tax doesn't run out today.

The email looked very authentic - even to the words 'Crown Copyright' - and I imagine a lot of people could be taken in by it.  Beware.

Thanks, naomi.

Not very bright of the scammers to realise that your tax can't run out until the end of a month! 😂

Did it have your personal and car details?

Have had a few of them over the past few months.  I know exectly when my car tax is due so just delete them.  Scams getting more sophisticated so best be on your toes.

No, Barry.  Nevertheless some people could be taken in.

It's very hard to spot these scammers especially when the real DVLA is incompetent. My car was writtn off and sold to a car breaker. The DVLA were informed on line and a few days later I received a letter confirming this and shortly after a cheque arrived refunding the remaining road tax fee. Three days later another letter arrived informing me I needed to retax said car.

Vulcan makes a very good point. IME some organisations are so bloody incompetent their genuine communications look like scams.
