Received an email at 00.41 this morning claiming to be from TV Licencing telling me direct debit for renewal had failed, and included a link to set up a new direct debit, it was addressed to 'Hi (and then my email address)'. It didn't fool me but I thought it might be worth flagging it up, be warned.

Thanks for the replies, but probably not a bad idea to highlight it again buy the sound of it.
I have had a couple of emails of late telling me that my tv license needs to be renewed by midnight ... ignored those too.....I have a paper copy of my license so can always check!!!!!!
1581960 It's always a good idea to remind us all of the scams that are going around.
Were you by chance born on 15th August 1960?

"Were you by chance born on 15th August 1960? " Memorable date 'New Judge' but not when I was born.

Back to the attempted scam, was it an amazing coincidence, or did someone know when my licence is due?
I had a similar one the day after I paid my TV Licence in full.
thx always nice to know

Looks as though someone's in the know about when our licences are due!!! Should that make them easier to find?
the ones that scare me are

and dont worry we will use the card details that you have already given us to perform the changes....

If they were 'in the know' they'd have called by your name and included some info such as your name and address.

They will send millions of these and will strike lucky- and for those on monthly DDs there is a reasonable chance a payment will be due in the next few days
Have had a few of these which I've ignored. Pay my TV licence annually by DD.
I used to be alarmed by the phone calls that said there was a warrant out for my arrest but I now offer to put the kettle on should they ever arrive.
Same as maggiebee, except forward all scam e-mails to Action Fraud to investigate, including BT, British Gas, Tv Licence, and even one scammer that claimed it had video evidence of me being 'happy', after viewing a porn mag ( damn, I thought I was being careful, but must have let my guard slip down!) :-)
They demanded payment of about $645.....computer said NO.

Thanks for the tip :-)

Be careful, be safe.
I had something similar yesterday, but it was a text not an e-mail.
