I haven't posted a Gig Of The Week for ages, but ...

Yesterday, we got the train to St Albans, to see local chap (local here, not local there) Phil Mogg, and his band ...

UFO !!

Great fun gig. Complete nostalgic blast from the past. If anyone else knows UFO, they played the old favourites ... Lights Out, Only You Can Rock Me, Rock Bottom ... and Doctor Doctor for the encore.

If anyone knows St Albans, Phil Mogg said he'd been in a pub called The Boot. He said it had an open fire and a chocolate labrador. It sounded quaint. We didn't see it. Before the gig, we went in a nice place called The Peahen, and had a couple of bottles of vino.

I'd been to St Albans before, a few years ago, for a beer and cider thing, which was at the same place as the gig last night.

I'm becoming a regular.

St Albans also claims to have Britain's oldest pub (The Fighting Cocks), but we didn't manage to get there. Maybe we'll check it out next time we venture up north.

I 've been to the 'Fighting Cocks' several times. It's very nice but also very small , 10 people in there and it's crowded.

Sounds cosy, Eddie
My gig of the month in Nov will be the Wailers:-)
I hope the labrador doesn't get too near the fire.
Question Author
We did ask the way to the Fighting Cocks. Someone said it was past the cathedral. It sounded a bit of a walk.
Question Author
The Wailers ... not like Bob Marley ??
Minus Bob Marley, unless they've dug him up, JJ :-)
Question Author
It IS like Bob Marley. I just looked it up. That sounds fantastic.
It is very near the Cathedral , just the other side of the main entrance.
Question Author
We should've made the effort to go and find it.
How did the chocolate Labrador taste ?

It's Ye Olde Fighting Cocks BTW. Nice enough pub; but beware the badly designed garden bench/table with the foot level spar of wood at each end that trips you up and sends you flying when trying to extract yourself from it.

The Peahen is nice too, but I had to use Google Maps to see I had been into the Boot once.
Question Author
Oh, thanks, AOG. The Boot looks nice.

OMG, I just noticed ... we were SO close to there! We got coffees from the Starbucks in the picture!
