Lets just assume that there is a God, the God of the NewTestament, Torah and Qur'an, then what would be his/her role in this catastrophe?.

His role is that this is a temporary world and so is life here.
"Lets just assume that there is a God, the God of the NewTestament, Torah and Qur'an, then what would be his/her role in this catastrophe?."

To show how mighty and powerful s/he is.
That there was a purpose to this - not so much the loss of life but that the world needed an earthquake at this time. Or it might be the other gods, given that the Japanese by and large are Shinto Buddhists.
So, what happened to this God is good cr@p?

If there really is one and my time comes I'm gonna kick him right in the nuts.
Lonnie, if there were a God from such drivelling then they showed little mercy... don't you think.

When you're time has come wildwood, will they be kn0bbie's nut's?
Society hi...Do you mean like ghengis khan, adolph hitler and muanmar gaddafi? only worse.
Keyplus..so it would be nice if while we are here in this temporary world life was at least bearable. After all, even you do not know what comes next.
I believe it is nice for majority of the people. And more importantly a bigger test for the majority of the people that how they help these people at this difficult time and even more importantly what they have learnt about this life.
Keyplus..I don't think anybody should suffer so that I can help them or so that I am able to learn. Still as I am an atheist god wouldn't have had me in mind when he arranged this disaster.
to assume that some higher being is deliberately sacrificing these people's lives in such a horrific way in order to test others is, in my opinion, disgusting.
To answer the question, assuming there is a god, his role in this would have to be murdering bastard.
Ys, pa----ul3, those who believe in this 'God' seem uncaring about what sort of a monster it is they are worshipping. But since it doesn't exist the rest if us don't have to get angry with it.
All is for the best in the best of all possible worlds.
We can't begin to know what motivated God to let the earthquake and tsunami happen.
agree with you chakka, however it's hard not to feel anger towards those who are essentially supporting the acts of this hypothetical god.
A motive isn't a justification Sandy, to suggest that the lives of those unaffected are more valuable than those who perished is akin to the mentality behind slavery.
Imagine if you can a God who creates a world & then populates it & says I have made this world for you it is now up to you to live your lives as you see fit because from this day forward I will not interfere with what you do or the environment you live in. Is this not a tolerant & benign God ?. We cannot blame God for the things that happen to his people who are free to live their lives in places of danger if that is where they choose. You are also quite free to call me a nutter if you so wish.Ron.
Sandy... You are being a little bit disingenuous by suggesting that god let this happen. We have it on Keyplus's authority with the support of the Qur'an that god created the disaster to test and educate the survivors.
Ron..I wouldn't dream of calling anyone a nutter as I keep some thoughts to myself :-)
I agree with you WhiskeyRon - free will it is called - although disasters such as this do challenge ones faith
Can I dare to suggest that people living on fault lines could be assisted with help from the World Health Organisation to move to less vunerable areas ( for instance steal some land from the Israelis)
Ron you are a poet..
I was watching BBC World at work yesterday and one of the phone-in people suggeted that Japanese people should vacate Japan and move somewhere else! A bit of a pointless suggestion. Maybe all the people on the San Andreas Fault should emigrate as well. Not to mention the New Zealanders, Samoans etc.
