does anyone think that god might be disappointed in all of us? sometimes I think that their are those who have already been chosen to go to heaven and many of us will be in hell. I would like to think that i am going to heaven i can assume that i will go but that is not up to me to decide. Sometimes i think that i can do good and just be taken to heaven when i die. i can ask for forgives over and over again and again but god is no fool it is human nature to do what we think is a good deed but it has to come from the heart not because we think we will go to heaven. I believe in god i am no expert on god or how he does things sometimes i have a hard time excepting things for what they are and how they are. I just wonder how much we really think we know god?

I am sorry if this does not answer your question.
However, someone that does not exist would find it difficult to be disappointed!
Good works will never get anyone into heaven. Trust in the Lord, believe in him, ask him into your heart and be sure you are going to heaven, simple as that, The hard part comes when you have to live the rest of your life living the christian life.

No doubt answers will now come swarming on with There is no God, those people will find out too late there is.
I am sorry darcydark,
but I have (literally) looked into the face of hell(ask me and will tell you how) and no God was there,so it is you who won't find out till too late, because when you die there is no more.
Life is not a rehearsal for Heaven, this is it,get on with it!
there definitely is a God. he cares for you and he understands all about you.talk to him like you would a friend.pray whenever possible even when you dont feel like it. reach out in faith and god will sustain you through all that life throws at you.if possible find a fellowship and meet with like-minded people.ask God into your life today.i could not get through each day without him.god created us in his image, and he knows just what we are like. i pray that you will find peace and do not worry about not having all the answers. God bless you.
Superstitious claptrap.
I don't believe in god. But I accept that other people do believe in god.

Believing in god does not mean that you are a good person.

Going to church does not make you a good person.

Being without religion does not mean I am a lost soul who has no direction in life.

Life is hard then you die.
can't you just ponder through life being a nice person and worry about all that twaddle when you pop your clogs ?

seems like a waste of energy fretting about something you only have some vague incling - or have been convinced - might exist. and even then, not having a scooby which way you'll end up. if you reckon you've done nice things and been good, then if that makes you think of your god bing disappointed in you, then tell them to sod off.
Oh, I don't think I could tell God to sod off.... that would be a little bit blasphemous. Not as though I'm a huge believer or anything, but would want to hedge my bets, just in case.... ;-)

Like you said ankou - be good, caring and as nice as you can possibly be depending on the circumstances.
I wonder how many of those poor souls in Haiti drew comfort from their "caring and understanding" God??
"but god is no fool it is human nature to do what we think is a good deed but it has to come from the heart"

so tell him to sod off now, and then when you pop your clogs, say sorry. ta daaaaa.
So Ultraman who do you think pleases God more?

The athiest who does good deeds or the Christian who does good deeds hoping to gain favour with God?

And given that you cannot fully know the mind of God perhaps you're better off as an agnostic doing gooddeeds than risking supernatural wrath my worshiping the wrong version of him!

I love to start the day with a reverse Pascal's wager!
come now jake, it is common knowledge that atheists are incapable of good deeds.
:c)

Note to self - start thread on the evolutional advantages on altruism
If the God of the Bible is in charge then we are all in trouble. All the evidence shows that He is violent schizophrenic who will do anything if you are in favour but step out of line and he will kill you or worse. Never be sure what mood He is in.

What He wants us to be changes depending on which parts of the Bible you read but it is clear that He demands us to be completely sychophantic.

But I am not worried. Heaven sounds like a creepy place. The people He will be letting in are not those I would be likely to befriend. Send me to oblivion rather than spend eternity with a bunch of looniesworshiping a violent megalomaniac.

Definitely won't be many of them. Most of His minions are breaking rules clearly spelt out in the Bible in the words of Jesus himself. Worship in private, not like the hypocrites. And of course, women are to be subservient to men and hide when they menstruate.

I don't know anyone who fulfils their sacrificial obligations by properly anointing their big toe, finger and ear with blood.

If I get punished I will take heart in the faith that there are many more deserving than me who will be paying more dearly. I have no doubt many of them would be be iconic religious figures from history.
Ultraman- As I am Muslim so perhaps my views are a bit different but here you go. God created human only for one reason and that is to worship him alone. No one as his partner, son, or anything else. All the biggest religion’s books speak only about one God. According to Islam that is the only sin (associating a partner) which will not be forgiven Apart from that once you repent then all the mistakes and sins are forgiven as long as you don’t believe that lets do it and then ask for forgiveness. And it does make sense as if you believe in “A” then how can you expect “B” to forgive you as for you that never existed. Same goes to atheists as for them God does not exist.

However as someone said in a post above that what if when you are dead then you do not find anything. And I recently asked a similar question that what if you find then. As someone said it is better to believe and then find it never did than not believing and all of sudden find yourself standing there. In this case believer has nothing to loose as he/she would be as all of the others but otherwise what choice people would have?

Cot:
People talk about Good deeds and I have asked so many times and never got an answer that where the concept of good deeds has come from? From religions of course. Where it was said the first time that be good to your neighbour? In a religious book or a book of chemistry.

Finally God has given us free will to believe whatever we desire. Even a free will to disbelieve in God and liberty to use any sort of language about God. But along with that God has given us brain to think and clear signs around us to ponder. As long as you try your brain and think about simplest things the God will put you onto right path. That’s all it takes.
Ultraman, I think the question should really be rephrased to 'does anyone think that they might be disappointed with their self?' There's alot of different stuff you seem to be thinking about - from my reading of your post.

Firstly, your belief in God may depend on which religious context you follow and then secondly, to what extent do you follow it? For example, I was listening to Radio 5 about the discussion of the Pope and his views against homosexuality and one caller said he was a practising church-going Catholic but that God and not the Pope was his head therefore he believes the Pope to be wrong on this particular issue.

I think you sum up this contention yourself when you say: 'it is human nature to do what we think is a good deed but it has to come from the heart not because we think we will go to heaven.' I would say that whilst you are living it should only be yourself that you answer to, whether your deeds are good or not so good as long as the deed is genuine - why worry?
Wolf63 - You really have me thinking. Short, sharp, sweeping statements are dangerous (I mean that in a light-hearted way) It's the last one - 'Life is hard then you die.'?
I have an issue accepting that one because I don't think life is hard, its what a person makes of life that determines whether their life is hard or not?
Jason raises God and the Haitians. Ultraman hits upon this as well in his second to last sentence. I don't know if you watched the Tsumani doc about God on tele afew weeks ago? One Woman's story particular stands out for me. She was on the beach standing at the place her former house was, talking about her only 2 children who had been killed by the Tsumani and she said that she had to believe through her belief in Karma that her children had been 'bad' in their past life that they were taken in this way and if she didn't believe that, she could never move on or accept them gone as they were ectopic pregnancies and she couldn't have anymore children.

As a mother I was shocked that she could think of her kids as such, as a human being I understood. Life is what you make it, not what the circumstances make it?
Without God Good people would still do good things and bad people would still do bad things.

But for good people to do bad things, that takes religion

(Stephen Weinburg)
Actually Wolf63, I agree with you to a point but not totally. One has to take responsibility of their own life. It just sounds like a 'cop-out' to blame 'Life'?
