Is there a higher proportion of child abusers among the catholic clergy than in normal society, or does it just seem this way because they are supposed to be pillars of the community/morals etc so whenever it happens it gets a lot of press?

I am definitely starting to believe you are Legend.

The answer to your Q is, no. Sadly paedophilia occurs in all walks of life, creed, colour and nationality. If there is any proportional representation, then conclusively you could say that most paedophiles are men.
Question Author
I don't dispute that it occurs in all walks of life, but is it more prevalent in the catholic priesthood than in other men?
no-one can answer that really, can they? we dont even know what figures are involved, some offences may be covered up, some may never be reported.

I think that it seems to be a large percentage in that group because it hits headlines more because of their position in community
No....just that catholics are a more open religion for males & females to worship together. Unlike the mosque.
I think some people who become Catholic priests and youth workers may do so to get near children. so there would be a higher percentage.
By the same token you could also say the same of male teachers and paedetricians.
My feeling is same that good and bad are ever where in this world. And it is true that few people are reported more than the others. For example according to Daily Mail most of the Muslims are terrorists and according to abdulmajid all Muslims are rapists and paedophiles.
Catholic child, abusing priests?

Has someone told this child's mother to tell him to stop abusing those poor old priests? Honestly, kids today.
hahaha! anotherview, that nearly split my sides!
Another-view, that's exactly what I thought when I read the title of this question!

Er-yes and ? I said Youth workers.
Strange answer from octavius.

There are figures , not released to the public , held by the catholic church in the vatican.
AND THE PRESENT POPE WAS INCHARGE OF THE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING THE ABUSE FOR OVER 20 YEARS .

So it would be possible to compare if they would release the figures.

Now what part of my answer was 'strange' that led you to repeat your cliched catchphrase about the Pope Leg (haven't you done that line a hundred times)?

I am well aware of what the Pope has done (or not done as the case may be). If "figures" were release, then what other figures would they be compared against.

Brionon, your analogy then pretty much asserts that anyone man wishing to be a teacher, youth worker or paedeatrician, is probably a paedophile. What an intelligent observation. Fool.
People who have a desire to abuse children have tendency to gravitate to positions where they have access to, or power over children.
To put it simply these people became Priests in order to abuse children and for no other reason.
Another view you could take is this, was every care home worker in the 1970s and 80s (to date?) a child abuser?
Quite possibly yes.

Can you prove otherwise?
Now youre getting ridiculous.

Ill leave you emminent psychoanalysts to it

Good evening
