Yes, paganism.
The Lord's Supper, in which the bread represented the lord's body and the wine his blood, was an established ritual in a the pagan god-man mysteries centuries before the supposed time of Jesus. This is probably where Paul got it from when he introduced it into Christianity.

"He who will not eat of my body and drink of my blood, so that he will be made one with me and I with him, the same shall not know salvation."

Sound familiar? Read it in "John"?

It was originally spoken by the god-man Mithras, long before "John" was written.
